Circadian clocks, biological timing mechanisms that serve to synchronize organismal behavior and physiology with the day/night cycle, have been found in most eukaryotic organisms where they have been sought. Loci which when mutated disrupt clock function have been identified and the molecular dissection of circadian clocks has provided valuable insights into the underlying mechanisms of this universal biological phenomenon.
